Dumbbell Wood Chopper
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Band
- Cable
- Dumbbell
- Kettlebell
- Plate
HOW TO PERFORM
- Set up side-on to a cable or band anchored high, or stand holding a dumbbell, kettlebell or plate in both hands.
- Start with the load high on one side and pull it diagonally down and across the body toward the opposite hip, pivoting the back foot.
- Let the hips and trunk turn together rather than yanking with the arms.
- Control the load back up along the same line, and work both sides.
FORM TIPS
- A cable or band holds tension through the whole arc. A held weight does not: it is hardest in the middle, where the load is furthest from you, and nearly free at the top and bottom.
