Side-Lying Open Book
A step-by-step guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the movement and what to watch for.
- Equipment
- Bodyweight
HOW TO PERFORM
- Lie on your side with the hips and knees bent to 90 degrees and a cushion under your head.
- Stretch both arms out in front of you at shoulder height, palms together.
- Keeping the knees stacked, lift the top arm and open it across your body toward the floor behind you, following the hand with your eyes.
- Breathe out as the chest turns, let the arm settle as far as it goes, then bring it back over to the bottom hand.
- Work one side for reps, then roll over and switch.
FORM TIPS
- Keep the top knee pinned to the bottom one. If it lifts, the rotation has moved to the low back.
- Let the arm go only as far as the chest turns. Forcing the hand to the floor strains the front of the shoulder.
