Ring Handstand
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Rings
This is a technical lift, best learned under a coach’s eye before loading heavy.
HOW TO PERFORM
- Set the rings just off the floor, a little wider than the shoulders, and grip them firmly.
- Kick up into a handstand with the arms locked straight and the shoulders pushed up toward the ears.
- Turn the rings out slightly and press them toward each other to stop them drifting apart.
- Stack the hips over the shoulders and hold the body tight and straight.
- Come down by lowering the feet back to the floor under control.
FORM TIPS
- Hold a solid freestanding handstand and a ring support before trying it. The rings move in every direction, and a floor handstand alone does not prepare you for that.
- At first, let the forearms rest lightly against the ring straps. The contact steadies the rings while you learn the balance.
