Barbell Reeves Deadlift
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Barbell
HOW TO PERFORM
- Load the bar with full-size plates and stand over it with the bar over mid-foot, feet about hip width.
- Hinge down and grip the outer rim of each plate, palms facing in.
- Drop the hips, set the chest up and flatten the back, then brace.
- Stand up with the plates, locking out the hips and knees together.
- Lower the bar back to the floor under control along the same path.
FORM TIPS
- The very wide grip pulls the shoulders forward and asks a lot of the upper back to stay flat. Start light.
- Gripping the plate rims limits most people first, so expect to stop well short of your deadlift.
