Dumbbell Powell Raise
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Dumbbell
HOW TO PERFORM
- Lie on your side on a flat bench with a light dumbbell in the top hand, palm facing down.
- Let the working arm hang straight down in front of the chest toward the floor.
- Raise the arm up and back in an arc, keeping it straight, until it points at the ceiling.
- Pause, then lower slowly back to the hanging start. Finish the side and swap.
FORM TIPS
- Pull from the back of the shoulder and keep the shoulder away from the ear. Rolling the body back to help is the sign the dumbbell is too heavy.
- This is a shoulder health and control exercise. Slow reps with a light bell do more here than a heavy weight swung up.
