Machine Deadlift
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Machine
HOW TO PERFORM
- Load the machine and stand on the platform between the handles, feet about hip width.
- Push the hips back, bend the knees and grip the handles with a flat back and straight arms.
- Brace, then push the platform away and stand tall, locking out the hips and knees together.
- Lower the handles under control until the plates nearly touch the stops, then start the next rep.
FORM TIPS
- The machine fixes the path, so your job is the brace and the hip drive. Keep the back flat at the bottom, where the machine cannot help.
- Start with the hips a little above the knees, as in a trap bar deadlift.
