Dumbbell Lu Raise
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Plate
- Dumbbell
HOW TO PERFORM
- Stand tall with a light weight in each hand at your sides, arms straight and thumbs pointing forward.
- Raise the arms out to the sides, slightly forward of the body, keeping the elbows straight.
- Keep going past shoulder height until the arms are straight overhead, thumbs pointing behind you.
- Lower slowly along the same arc back to your sides.
FORM TIPS
- Use far less weight than on a lateral raise. The arms stay straight the whole way up, so the lever is long and the top of the range is the hard part.
- Let the shoulder blades rotate up as the arms pass shoulder height. That is the point of going overhead, so do not hold them pinned down.
TARGET MUSCLES
Primary
- Shoulders
Secondary
- Traps
