Bodyweight Lateral Step Up
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Bodyweight
- Dumbbell
HOW TO PERFORM
- Stand side-on to a box or bench set a little below knee height, close enough to reach it with the near foot.
- Place the whole near foot on the box.
- Drive through that foot to stand up tall on the box, letting the other leg come up alongside without pushing off the floor with it.
- Lower back down to the same side under control and touch the trailing foot to the floor lightly.
- Finish the reps on that leg, then turn around and work the other.
FORM TIPS
- The trailing foot is a passenger. A hop off it takes the work away from the leg on the box.
- Keep the knee of the working leg pointing over its toes as you rise rather than letting it fall inward.
