Dumbbell Incline Y Raise
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Dumbbell
HOW TO PERFORM
- Set a bench to about 30 to 45 degrees and lie chest down on it with the feet on the floor.
- Let a light dumbbell hang from each hand straight below the shoulders, thumbs pointing up.
- Keeping the arms straight, raise them up and forward into a Y, in line with the body, until they are level with the ears.
- Pause at the top with the shoulder blades drawn down and back, then lower under control.
FORM TIPS
- Use far less weight than you expect. Heavier bells turn it into a shrug as the traps at the top of the shoulders take over.
- Keep the chest on the bench. Lifting it to get the arms higher is the low back doing the work.
