Barbell Guillotine Press
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Barbell
HOW TO PERFORM
- Set the safety pins so they catch the bar just above your neck when you are lying on the bench.
- Lie back with the feet planted and take a grip wider than your normal bench press.
- Unrack the bar and hold it at arm's length over the neck rather than the chest.
- Lower it with the elbows flared out to the sides until it is just above the throat, without touching.
- Press back up along the same line to lockout.
FORM TIPS
- Never do this without safety pins set above the neck or a spotter standing over you. A missed rep lands on the throat.
- Use a fraction of your bench press. The flared elbows put the shoulders at a disadvantage, and the point is the stretch across the upper chest, not the weight.
