Barbell Drop Snatch
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Barbell
This is a technical lift, best learned under a coach’s eye before loading heavy.
HOW TO PERFORM
- Start with the bar ON THE BACK in a snatch grip, feet in the pulling position.
- Without any dip or drive from the legs, punch the arms up into a locked overhead position.
- Drop straight down into a full squat as the arms lock, moving the feet out to the receiving stance.
- Stand up with the bar overhead.
FORM TIPS
- No dip and no drive: the bar stays roughly where it is and you move under it. That is what separates it from a snatch balance, which dips and drives the bar up first.
- Start with an empty bar. Speed and the confidence to drop into the bottom are the point, not the load.
TARGET MUSCLES
Primary
- Quads
- Shoulders
Secondary
- Triceps
