Cable Y Raise
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Cable
HOW TO PERFORM
- Set both pulleys at the bottom of a cable crossover and take the left handle in the right hand and the right handle in the left, so the cables cross in front of you.
- Stand centred between the stacks with a slight forward lean and the hands crossed low in front of the hips.
- Raise both arms up and out on a diagonal, elbows softly bent, until the arms form a Y above the shoulders.
- Lower slowly back along the same path to the crossed start.
FORM TIPS
- Lead with the elbows and keep the thumbs pointing up and back. Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears at the top hands the rep to the upper traps.
- Go lighter than on a lateral raise. The arms finish above the head on a long lever, so the last part of the range is where the set gets hard.
