Kettlebell Bent Press
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Kettlebell
This is a technical lift, best learned under a coach’s eye before loading heavy.
HOW TO PERFORM
- Clean the kettlebell to the rack on one side, then turn the feet about 45 degrees away from that side, a little wider than the hips.
- Rest the back of the upper arm against the side of the torso, with the elbow tight in.
- Push the hip out toward the bell and bend the torso away and forward, sliding the free hand down the opposite leg, so the body moves away from the bell instead of the bell going up.
- Keep the eyes on the bell and keep bending until the arm is straight and locked.
- Stand back up with the arm locked overhead, then bring the bell back down to the rack under control.
FORM TIPS
- Go light. The bell barely moves; the press comes from getting the body out from under it.
- Learn the windmill first. The bent press is the same hip and trunk position with the arm still bent at the start.
