Band-Only Overhead Tricep Extension
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Band
HOW TO PERFORM
- Stand in a split stance with the middle of the band under your back foot.
- Bring the band up behind your back and take it with both hands behind the head, elbows bent and pointing up.
- Keep the elbows pointing forward and close to the head, and straighten the arms overhead.
- Bend the elbows to lower the hands back behind the head under control until you feel the stretch.
FORM TIPS
- This position loads the long head of the triceps under stretch, which the pushdown cannot. Keep the elbows in, they will want to flare.
- A band is hardest at lockout and lightest in the stretch, so take the bottom slowly and do not let the band snap the hands down.
