Band-Only Overhead Press
A step-by-step form guide from the Ægir Iron exercise library: how to do the lift, what to watch for, and the muscles it trains.
- Equipment
- Band
HOW TO PERFORM
- Stand on the middle of the band with the feet about shoulder width apart.
- Bring a handle to each shoulder, palms facing forward and elbows under the wrists.
- Brace the trunk, squeeze the glutes and press straight up until the arms lock out overhead.
- Lower under control back to the shoulders, keeping tension on the band at the bottom.
FORM TIPS
- The band is lightest at the shoulders and heaviest at lockout, the reverse of a dumbbell press. Widen the stance to add tension at the bottom.
- Keep the ribs down. If the low back arches to finish the rep, the band is too heavy.
