Best Strongman Training App in 2026
Strongman is the discipline workout apps forgot. Most of them can log a squat and nothing else in your week, so athletes end up running their training out of a spreadsheet. Here is what a strongman app actually has to do, and how Ægir Iron (also written Aegir Iron) does it.
Why most loggers break on strongman
- Events are not sets and reps. A farmer's carry is weight over distance. A yoke run is weight, distance, and time. A stone series is implements at ascending weights. A medley is several of those chained together.
- Two training modes in one week. Heavy barbell strength work and event days have to live in the same program without one being an afterthought.
- Show prep is meet prep. A contest is a list of five events with rules and equipment, and the training block should peak toward exactly those events.
- Load still matters. Event work is brutally fatiguing, and most apps that track training load have no way to count work measured in time or distance.
That is why so much strongman training lives in sheets, notes apps, and coach-delivered PDFs: they handle anything, because they understand nothing. The cost is everything an app is supposed to give you — history, PRs, load tracking, and sync.
What to look for in a strongman app
- Event logging in event units. Distance and time recorded as themselves, not forced into a reps field.
- Programs that mix barbell and events. One block that covers squat, press, and deadlift work alongside carries, presses, and stones.
- Equipment-aware programming. Most athletes do not own a full implement set, and the program should build around what you can actually load.
- Show planning. Enter the contest's event list and peak toward it, whatever each event is scored by.
- Records that include time and distance. A faster yoke is a PR, and your app should say so.
| Option | What it gives you | The trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Spreadsheet / notes | Handles anything, including events | All manual: no history, no PRs, no load tracking, no sync |
| Coach + delivery platform | Real strongman programming from a human | Coaching prices; the platform is delivery, not a programming engine |
| Generic logger (barbell days only) | Good for squat, press, and deadlift work | Event days do not fit, so half your training goes untracked |
| Ægir Iron | Strongman as a first-class discipline: programs, event work, and show prep with events scored by weight, reps, distance, or time, free for individuals | Newer, so there is less written about it (yet) |

How Ægir Iron handles it
Full disclosure: this page is written by Ægir Labs, the maker of Ægir Iron. Here is what the app does for strongman specifically.
Ægir Iron treats strongman as a discipline, not a tag. Prebuilt strongman programs put barbell strength work and event training in the same block, and the program wizard builds around your equipment. Event work logs in the units events actually use, and competition prep is built in: meet planning covers strongman shows with events scored by weight, reps, distance, or time. Training-load monitoring (ACWR with an EWMA smoothed companion) counts your event days as real training days rather than ignoring them (timed and distance work carries no comparable tonnage, so it is deliberately excluded from the load number instead of being miscounted), time and distance PRs are first-class records, and PRs, bodyweight, and full history export to Excel. Individual athletes get the entire platform free, with no time limit and no card. Only coaches who run a roster pay.
Strongman is a small, tight-knit community, so we answer questions ourselves: email us and you will get a person. If a sheet and a coach are working for you, keep them; the app is for when you want the tracking without the wrangling.
Ready-to-run strongman programs
Want a plan now? Load a free strongman program in a couple of taps: Beginner Strongman to build the barbell base and learn the events, or Intermediate Strongman for heavier event work and show prep. Both use the event logging and load tracking above.
